Big L Windows & Doors Expands Due to Demand, Commitment to Customers
Founded in 1975 by Ed Horbett Sr. and his son, Bill Horbett Sr., Big L Windows and Doors not only consistently provides quality windows and doors to Western New York homeowners and businesses, it also has grown substantially, especially in the last couple of years. In response to escalating demand, the company has increased its staff of installers and salespeople to 60 and expanded its public space.
Big L, which is headed by the founder’s grandson, Bill Horbett Jr., last August remodeled its Cheektowaga showroom and warehouse where it sells energy-efficient and customizable windows and doors to homeowners and commercial contractors. Along with updating its façade, the company doubled the size of its showroom and warehouse to 6,200 square feet to accommodate additional inventory, meet with customers, and increase the number of workstations. And this all happened in the heart of a worldwide pandemic.
“There’s been a lot of activity in Buffalo,” Bill Horbett Jr. said. “In the last couple of years, developers have been turning old buildings into loft apartments and light commercial businesses. At the same time, people working from home during COVID decided that this would be a good time to invest in new windows and doors.”
The demand allowed Big L to pursue a longtime plan to remodel its public space. Since then, he said they’ve definitely seen an increase in foot traffic and appointments. Along with offering aesthetically pleasing energy-efficient products, Bill Horbett Jr. attributes the company’s success to his staff.
“I believe in surrounding myself with people smarter than me,” he said. “I’ve been fortunate to find good people to hire.”
Also, the company’s philosophy of doing the right thing, established years ago, remains the business’s cornerstone.
“We’re working in the community every day, with our friends and neighbors,” Bill Horbett Jr. said.
“It pays to do good work and help make people’s homes more energy efficient and more beautiful.”
